Four Things You Should Ask When You Hire a Removalist

Blog

Hiring a removalist may seem easy, but if you overlook certain basic questions during the hiring process, you could end up with some serious issues. Some of these issues may be with the delivery of your items, other scheduling mishaps, or with the amount of coverage on your items. Before you hire a removalist for your next move, consider the following questions you should ask and why you should ask them.

What Type of Insurance is Available?

One of the main questions you should ask removalists is about insurance. You need to know if they offer insurance for any damages that may occur during the move. You also need to ask how much that insurance covers and how you are reimbursed for any items that are damaged. If the company does not offer insurance, they may refer you to a third party that does. Make sure to ask this as well. You want to make sure that your items are protected and if they are damaged, you are reimbursed appropriately.

What are the Extra Fees?

You may find there are extra fees for various services and items. One of the most common additional fee is related to mileage. You may find that you have to pay more fees for extended miles. You may also find that you have to pay fees for late scheduling, changes in the schedule, storage, and unloading of your items. Make sure you receive a fee chart prior to hiring the removalists.

Are Items Secured Overnight?

If your move requires an overnight trip, you may want to ask if your items are secured for that overnight and how. The reason this is important is because some drivers, especially for long hauls, may park the truck and either sleep in the cab or sleep in a nearby hotel. If this is the case, you will want to know how secure your items are during this time. This is especially true if you have items that cannot be replaced due to sentimental or related issues.

Will a Log of Items be Kept on File?

You will likely have a log of the items you are having the removalists take care of for you. What you may want to find out is if the removalists will be keeping a log of the items as well. This is important if you find you are missing an item and you need to make sure it was on both your and their logs.

If you ask these four questions, you will be better prepared for hiring the removalists and dealing with them through the moving process. If you have trouble gaining the answer to these questions, consider another company (such as AA Furniture Removals).

Redecorating my house at last

While I was still married my house was a mish mash of both of our tastes in furnishing. Now that we have seperated I am finally getting a chance to decorate my house the way I wanted it. I have a couch that is truly comfortable and looks good, rather than the smelly old couch that used to live in our lounge room. It's so much more relaxing to walk into my house and enjoy looking around. I'm reading furniture catelogues like I used to read novels and researching like crazy. Join me on my redecorating adventure by reading along!
